Cheesy Christmas Movie Watchalong: 2023 β„οΈπŸŽ„πŸΏ

THE SCHEDULE

1. Christmas Time Is Here (Netflix)

FYI this is not the lead romantic couple.

I thought I'd ease us into the 2023 watchalong with as many tropes as possible, and this one really does ladle them on thickly like a delicious, Santa-sweet syrup. There's a small-town inn, a big-city developer, a magical heirloom, interrupted kisses-aplenty, lashings of fake snow and perhaps one of the most awkward Christmas carol renditions I've seen on-screen. Enjoy and HAPPY DECEMBER!

14. No Sleep Til Christmas (Disney+)

Ah, I loved this film! It's not bursting at the seams with festive feels, but it really is a sweet little romance that made me feel all sparkly and happy. It tells the tale of two insomniacs who, by near-death / meet-cute chance, discover that they can only slip into delicious slumber in each other's company. The catch is she's engaged to someone else!!! This film ends very nicely and made me grin like a toppled crescent moon, but omg the brief epilogue annoyed the hell out of me. Share your thoughts once you've watched it!!

15. Something From Tiffany's (Amazon Prime)

16. A Kindhearted Christmas (Netflix)

I had lots of silly fun watching this film, in which a TV anchorman inexplicably develops a crush on a woman who is very much behaving like his crazed stalker. Like, seriously - at one point she’s just lurking nearby and staring at him. But, as we know, in the cheesy Christmas universe anything is possible. Including the first conversation about a financially-struggling town's plans for Christmas celebration taking place a mere ten days before Christmas Day itself. But there was one scene in particular that stood out for me: the weirdest Christmas cracker moment I have ever witnessed. Do Christmas crackers only exist in the UK?! So other nationalities actually not know how to actually pull them? Or have they done this on purpose to amuse us? I, for one, was extremely amused. Discuss!
